IDAHOT 2016 – A sound mind leads to great changes

IDAHOT 2016 – A sound mind leads to great changes

10th June, Bangkok – Youth Voices Count (YVC) the first and only network of young gay men, young bisexual men, other young men who have sex with men and young transgender people in Asia and Pacific will be launching its annual IDAHOT campaign with four exiting activities.

.

On May 17th, 1990, The World Health Organization (WHO) published a revised version of the International Classification of Diseases Manual, in which homosexuality was not considered a mental disease any longer. This is the reason why, every year since 2004, the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is celebrated worldwide on May 17th.

Mental health is the theme of this years IDAHOT celebrations and for YVC mental health of young gay men, young bisexual men, other young men who have sex with and young transgender people has ever been a key priority connected with addressing self-stigma among these populations.

There is particularly an increased recognition that the stresses created by stigma, inequality and harassment can cause LGBTQI people to be at a heightened risk of psychological distress. Young people are further at risk of this because of unique issues that arise as a result of their age.

Therefore, it’s critical that mental health is made an integral part of health services that are targeted towards young gay men, young bisexual men, other young men who have sex with men and young transgender people. A healthy and sound young mind can bring greater changes to the community.

Join with us this year celebrating IDAHOT to raise awareness on mental health and well being of our communities as young people.

.

  1. Hi there,
When the link to change the avatar to IDAHOT2016 is clicked, it will direct us to a Facebook confirmation which says Avatar for World AIDS day. That may confuse people.

    Can it be changed?
